We modeled what happened when two tectonic plates collided. We used stacks of papers and the textbook and saw what happens when two stacks of paper are pushed together, one stack of paper still while the other stack of paper pushes the stack of paper that is still and finally when a stack of paper pushes a textbook. I have learnt about tectonic plates and my question/ aim was answered.
We modeled the mid-ocean spreading of tectonic plates. When we pull the paper apart, it forms a curve which relates to the mid-ocean ridges. We learned how the mid-ocean spreads of tectonic plates. As the paper went further out, the height of the paper of the gap went higher. My aim/ question was answered.
We investigated the movement of the convection current for both experiments. For the hot convection, the potassium permanganate goes up then swirls back down and for the cold convection; the potassium permanganate just stays at the top when it touches the water and the bag of ice at the same time. My question/ aim was answered.
1. What CST and IST grade what you allocate yourself for this project? Justify your response.
I would allocate myself for this project a “B” because our work is pretty good and we all gave a good effort. I might get a “B” because we didnt answer some parts in the rubric to a high standard.
2. What could you do tonight that would improve your grade?
I could go through the rubric and read the “A” column and follow that and edit the movie to improve my grade.
3. What grade do you think your team will give you for teamwork? Why?
I think that my team will give me a mark in the middle because I was not seeking for more work and not helping other group members to a high standard.
4. Thinking about your presentation on Monday, what do you need to do to score an “A” grade? (hint: Look at the presentation skills). What could you do before Monday, to ensure you receive an “A”?
For my presentation, to score an “A” grade, i would need to have a loud voice and should speak clearly. I also should remember my lines so I wont have to look at the palm card and have extensive eye contact and not acting like I forgot my lines. I also need good posture and not put my hands in my pocket.
1. Likes and dislikes of this project…..any suggestions on how to improve???
The thing that I liked about this project is doing pracs and designing an optical instrument in our group because I wasnt bored lazy while designing and doing prac. The thing that I disliked about this project was going into our research without having an idea of what were meant to research. We can improve this by experimenting it with real thing. An example is for refraction going to the swimming pool and throwing a stick in and see how it refracts so we could have a better understanding of what were meant to research and know if what were researching is right or wrong.
2. What areas do you think you have improved in from project 1 to project 4?
The areas I have inproved in from project 1 to project 4 is my skills on wikispace and writing a scientific report. I also improved on my presentation skills and how to speak clearly and not read fully from the palm card.
3. What further skills would you like to develop over the next few projects?
The further skills that I would like to develop over the next few projects are my presentation skills and writing a better scientific report. I would also like to learn how to use wikispace properly.
Q1.) Analyse why red sunsets can sometimes be more impressive when there is more dust or pollution in the air than usual.
Red sunsets can sometimes be more impressive when there is more dust or pollution in the air than usual because the light rays get refracted which shows the spectrums. The spectrums have a lot of colours so it looks more impressive like a rainbow.
Q2.) Describe what happens inside water droplets to cause a rainbow and explain how you can tell whether a rainbow is a primary or secondary.
The thing that happens inside water droplets to cause a rainbow is that the light is refracted and internally reflected which shows the illusion. You can tell whether a rainbow is a primary or a secondary because a primary rainbow would always have the colours of the spectrum in order- from red to violet, but a secondary rainbow would contract and be in different orders.
Investigate the two types of sight defect- long-sightedness and short sightedness.
Find the following information:
1. what causes the defect
Long-sightedness: Defect caused when the focal point moves behind the retina because the eyeball is too short.
Short-sightedness: Defect caused when the focal point moves away from the retina because eyeball tends to be long.
2. the symptoms displayed
The syptoms that are displayed are that the object appears blurry and cant be able to read clearly. Another symptom is that headache would occurs and you would squint which is bad for your eyes.
3. propose what sort of lens may be used to correct each vision.
Long-sightedness: Convex lens so it could bend the light and so the retina can focus.
Short-sightedness: Concave lens so it can bend the light rays outwards therefore the light rays have a greater angle to bend back to focus through the lens.
Q1.) How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?
I feel the media potrays the social justice issues towards their own opinion. They are biased and show no evidence to backup their arguement.
Q2.) Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice issues why/why not?
It hasn’t been difficult to find articles on social justice issues because if you know a type of a social justice issue, you could just type it in ‘Google’ or any other search engine and you would get a whole heap of article.
Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.
The media doesn’t have a moral framework because they want to tell the audience their opinion so that they can engage more audience and not following the real way. The media knows the true story but are paid to change it.
Using your eduBlog Page, under the category CST/IST - Project 5 answer the following questions.
1. Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu.
Describe what is a critique.
A critique is when a person offers reasoned judgements or analysis or observation.
2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique.
The four stages of a critique are introduction, summary, analysis and evaluation. You can add a conclusion but that is optional.
3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.
A critique can be positive. It really depends on what the article is about and if it is positive or negative.
4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:
A lot of people contributed to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing so it can get American athletes. The video is saying that the Chinese people are digging holes and filling it with branches to capture American athletes but they dont have any sort of evidence. In other words they are making it up and its their own opinion which would be biased. The audience would believe this news which is not even true.
This article shows that a donkey has been chosen to play basketball. This story is belieble as they show evididence such as small clips and pictures. On the other hand, the reporters exxagerated too much about it. The donkey wasnt playing a real competition but it was playing for a small fundraiser.
